GDRHS Students Compete in Food Drive

Advisory is a high school program that is designed to meet the following mission:

The GDRHS Advisory Program for the school year 2015-16 is designed to promote school spirit and enable our students and staff to develop meaningful relationships in a small group setting. Combining our collective initiative, ideas, and resources we aim to reach beyond our school walls to not only strengthen our GD community but also make a positive difference in addressing the unmet needs around us.

The Advisory theme for this school year is community service. During the September 17th Advisory, students were asked to bring in non-perishable items to benefit the Loaves & Fishes food pantry in Devens, MA.

GDRHS Advisory Food DriveDuring each Advisory, a challenge is issued and a points system is being used to award each challenge winner. The Advisory with the most points at the end of the semester will get a Chipotle lunch. The challenge to the students during the September 17th advisory was to construct a free standing tower using all of the non-perishable items the students brought in.  The class then had to tweet a picture with the name of the advisory, the height of the tower, the number of items collected, and the hashtag #gdadvisory2015.  Points were awarded as follows:

  • 1st place: 20 points, breakfast at next advisory
  • 2nd place: 15 points
  • 3rd place: 10 points
  • All that complete the challenge: 5 points
  • Most number of items collected: wins lunch
