Middle School News May 10, 2019

Guess What? Yup you guessed it, it is raining…again…someday the sun will come out to stay a few days!

Today, May 10th marks the half-way point of the 4th quarter. School Brains grading has been updated with all available assignments as of May 8th. This is a great time to look at grades with your middle schooler and chat about effort all the way to the end of the year! Any student with two or more end of the year ‘F’ grades may not be eligible for promotion to the next grade.

The annual Art at the Heart event was held this past week, hopefully you had the opportunity to enjoy the visual arts hung around the south building, to see the Public Service Ads produced by the grade 8 Communications Classes and to hear the grade 8 Band and Chorus this past week. Shout out to the Fine Arts teachers: Alyssa Hansen, Denyse Walker, Katie Boettcher, Vinny DeStefano, Emily Stone and Linda Jones.

May 17th will be a half day for professional development. Students will be dismissed starting at 11:30 a.m. All students will have the opportunity to sign up for an IA exploratory block for that day. Anyone that does not sign up, will sit out the exploration in the office.

May 17th will also be the date of the Student Council sponsored ‘Spring Fling’ dance for grade 7 & 8. The dance will be held in the school cafeteria, so please plan to drop off at 7pm and pick up at 9pm in the rear of the North building, just like we do drop off and pick up every day! The cost of the dance will be $5 and snacks will also be available for sale.

May 21st – Mathematics Course placement information session for upcoming Grades 7 and 8 Students, 6 -7 pm in the Middle School North Library. Information session to share information about the course placement process for incoming grades 7 and 8 students. Students in grade 7 and 8 will have a choice of two mathematics courses. This session will be offered to share information about how student recommendations are made and to give parents an opportunity to ask questions about how to make a thoughtful decision about which course would best suit their child’s academic needs.
