Middle School News – August 14, 2019

Dear Parents/Guardians,

The Middle School faculty welcomes your middle schooler back to school…well not just yet, on August 28th!

If you are new to our District, we invite you and your child to a New Family Orientation on August 22nd, 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. in the Performing Arts Center of the Middle School South Building. The building administration will offer some insight into the middle school experience, answer some questions and conduct tours of the facility.

All student tentative schedules were available for viewing on School Brain on August 12th. It would be highly beneficial for parents to print out a schedule for their middle school child(ren) to bring to school on the 28th. Thank you for your patience in waiting until August 19th for all schedules to be finalized.

Morning drop off and afternoon pick-up: Students will be allowed into the building at 8:00 a.m., 8:09 a.m. is considered late. If you are dropping your child(ren) off at school, please follow the line along the far side of the parking lot, all the way around the red Twomey Center building into the back parking lot behind the North building. Please wait until school adults invite students to exit cars before letting them out of the car, which will be about 8:06 so that we can move the large groups of bus students through the halls. Please, for the safety of all, DO NOT drop your middle schooler off in the parking lot or driveway in any location other than the back of the North building. Pick up at the end of the day will begin at 2:25 behind the North building as well.

First day plan – all 5th, 6th and 8th graders are to report to their homerooms upon entering the buildings. All 7th graders are to report to the PAC in the South building for their first block class, which will be Integrated Arts.

Please take a few moments to familiarize yourself and your middle schooler with our Student Handbook.

Back to school supplies: If you ordered school supplies via School Tool Box – thank you for supporting our PTO and the supplies will be in your child’s homeroom on the first day of school. If you did not pre-order, well here are some lists to get you on your way:  Back to School Supplies

Garden Classroom Thanks to the generous financial donations and physical grunt work from staff, parents and students across the District this summer we have re-purposed the South building courtyard into a Garden Classroom with walkways, picnic tables, adirondak chairs and two Buddy Benches in memory of teachers Betsy Sawyer and Diane Glinka. We hope that teachers and students will enjoy learning in this new space!
