Middle School News – August 30, 2019

Good Afternoon!

The first week of 2019-20 is almost in the books! Thank you to staff, parents and students as we continue to fine tune a schedule that is aimed to make the best use of time for 756 students! We have made a few schedule changes again today, so if you could have your middle schooler check the schedule over the weekend, printing it out if there are changes.

News from the Health Offices: Mrs. Gray and Mrs. Fleming our School Nurses, ask you to please fill out the Nurse’s Office Emergency Card so we can effectively support your students if an emergency were to occur. Please complete the form that was sent home and send in with your child to the Health Offices.

Lunch – I have heard from a number of parents about the lunch schedule. We have had 25 minute lunches at the middle school for a number of years, so there was not change to this. A couple of impacts have been grade 6 and 7 students having to walk to the other building for lunch, we will continue to review how best to manage time. Additionally, many grade 5 students did not recall their 4 digit number for their lunch accounts, so this really slowed down the line. So, if students are buying lunch, please make sure they have their account number memorized – this will speed up the lines and relieve some unnecessary stress on the students.

Open House – Our annual open house will be on Thursday, September 12th from 6:30 – 8:30. This is a great opportunity to meet many of the adults your child interacts with on a daily basis. This is not really a time for a parent conference. The full schedule will be in my message next Friday.

Frozen – Here is a chance for your middle schooler to take part in our annual play! Play Registration

Fire Drills – We did have two fire drills today – one for each building.

Courtyard Classroom – Thank you to District Staff members, parents, 4th graders, Girl Scout Troops, children of staff members, and more for donations of your time and financial support to re-imagine the South courtyard into a classroom! We are looking for a Courtyard Classroom Steward – someone that would check in a couple of times a month to see if anything needs to be updated, fixed, re-arranged, etc. Not necessarily to do the work, but to keep an eye out to ensure the classroom will continue to be a great place for a lesson! Before , Before , After , After

P.R.I.D.E. – Positivity: Demonstrate open-mindedness. Be accepting and support diverse thinking. Have a willingness to learn.
