Middle School News – June 29, 2020

Good Morning From the Middle School…well actually my dining room!

Return to school in Fall: I get many questions about what school will look like in the Fall. I do not know…I venture to guess that at this moment in time, no one in the United States knows! We have an active task force meeting weekly to discuss the three possible scenarios as requested by the Department of Education – All in; All Remote; Blended (combo in and remote). We will continue to work through the summer to plan for a meaningful and safe educational experience for all students and faculty based on State guidance.

Hats? I have been asked by a few parents if we will relax the handbook rules on face coverings and hats. Yes, in the event that students and faculty are in the building, face masks will be required, that is a given. There are several designs now that use buttons on a baseball cap or a headband to loop the elastic from the face mask and to relieve having it around the ears. These will absolutely be allowed. Just hats?…nope…hats with this purpose, of course!

The Connection: During school closure, our Literacy Specialist, Danielle Patenaude invited students and staff to contribute to a middle school magazine…here it is!

Art at the Heart: Unfortunately we were not able to enjoy the annual Spring Arts at the Heart event in May. Here is a mini-version that you might enjoy! this link

Fall High School Volleyball: Attention all 8th grade girls! Assuming conditions permit, August 24th is the tryout date for GD high school volleyball! Even though many of the local camps and opportunities aren’t available this year, our Varsity players will be putting together some playing/drilling opportunities for new and returning players to learn/refresh their skills to get ready for the fall. You do not need to have any experience to come! They will be teaching basic skills, running drills, and playing games. Please email the new volleyball coach, Heather Barlow, if you would like information on fall volleyball or specific info about these student-run practices. We hope to see you in August! heatherwbarlow@gmail.com
