Principal Update January 17, 2020

  1. Happy New Year!!!  It is hard to believe that we are almost at the half way point of the school year.  I continue to be extremely proud of our students and staff.  The effort and commitment to teaching and learning is off the charts.
  2. This is also the time we start thinking about next year and welcoming our new kindergarten students.  We have scheduled our Kindergarten Orientation for the 2020-2021 school year for Wednesday, March 4th.  It will take place at Swallow Union from 6:30 to 7:30.  As this date gets closer, I will send out reminders.  Also, if you know any families that will have a child entering Kindergarten next year, could you please spread the word.
  3. SU had our first concert of the school year this week and the 4th graders did a wonderful job.  Under the direction of Mrs. Mitchell, our students sang with enthusiasm and demonstrated their joy to sing in front of their friends families.
  4. I am excited to announce that our 4th grade play this year will be Aladdin Jr. Our plan is to have try-outs during the week of February 10th.  The play is scheduled for the second weekend in May.  We will be sending home more information about the play next week.
  5. We have scheduled our dates for the MCAS for our 3rd and 4th graders: 3rd Grade – ELA – April 14 and 16 / Math – May 12 and 14 / 4th Grade – ELA – April 13 and 15 / Math – May 11 and 13.  I will be sending out reminders as we approach these dates. Please make every attempt not to schedule vacations during these dates.  We do have days for make-ups in case your child is out sick.
  6. Morning drop off information:  For the safety of our students, parents please stay in the drop off line and don’t pull in front of cars or drop off on the other side of the driveway unless you are instructed by a staff member or myself.  It gets very congested in the morning at times, and we trying to make it as safe as possible for our students.  Also, students can enter the building at 8:45 and the final bell rings at 8:55.
