GDEF is a volunteer non-profit organization committed to enhancing the success of our public schools by providing private funding for innovative, inspiring programs and opportunities. We believe that each child deserves an excellent educational experience and that supported and successful schools are fundamental elements of our special communities.
The Groton Dunstable Education Foundation (GDEF) urgently needs a treasurer. The role of a treasurer for GDEF is vital to our organization. We meet the second Tuesday of each month from 7:30-8:30 pm (now via Google Meet) and communicate with each other periodically during the month as grants are requested by, and awarded to teachers. This meeting and communication style make volunteering for GDEF more widely accessible as we don’t operate only during the school or work-day.

High School News for 8th Graders
On October 30th all 8th graders will be invited to take part in a virtual meeting with Nashoba Valley Technical High School counselors to learn more about this option for high school attendance. As schools are adopting different learning models, we are committed to helping students access the meals they need to thrive during this pandemic. GDRSD will continue to provide free meals for all students, (including remote learners, hybrid learners, enrolled in another district, or home schooled), during the rest of the school year. No registration or identification is required to receive meals. Meals can be picked up at: South Middle School, at the delivery entrance, (around the right of the building just beyond the dumpsters), Monday through Thursday from 12:30 pm through 1:30 pm.

Please know that we are following every safety protocol and best practices for social distancing at meal sites. All meals are served in a grab and go format, to limit social interactions. All employees follow hand washing, sanitizing, and mask-wearing protocols. Health Office News
As you have probably heard, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health has mandated that all children in grades K-12 must have a flu shot. Next week, if we do not have evidence of this flu shot, parents/guardians will receive an email explaining that they will be excluded from school as of December 31, 2020 if they do not produce evidence of a flu shot.

Starting October 30th, we are excited to offer students in Remote Learning model a face-to-face [synchronous] lesson with one of their IA teachers each Friday at 11:10-11:40. Your child’s IA teachers will let them know how to find the link.

Social Emotional Learning
‘Relationship Skills’ [10/8 – 10/30]
Every student will receive a weekly lesson in this topic: The ability to establish and maintain healthy and rewarding relationships with diverse individuals and groups. The ability to communicate clearly, listen well, cooperate with others, resist inappropriate social pressure, negotiate conflict constructively, and seek and offer help when needed.
