Middle School News – March 25, 2021

March 25, 2021

Greetings to Middle School Families & Staff!  On April 12th we welcome approximately 60 students into in-person learning. April 9th will be asynchronous [working independently] for students so that staff may prepare for this transition on Monday. Here is an FAQ for all students/parents on changes that are happening as of April 12th for remote and in person learning.

Quarter Date Changes

Quarter 3 will now end on April 9th – all student work will be due BY April 7th. ‘Report Cards’ in School Brains will be live at 3pm on April 16th. Please remind your middle schooler that they should NOT delete ANY Google Classroom class. Many students come to the end of the quarter and delete their IA classes that they will not be having in the following quarter. With this goes all of their work and any chance that the IA teacher has of grading their assignments for the quarter!

Drop Off – Pick Up Line

Please DO NOT leave your car idling while waiting for us to begin drop off or pick up, these fumes go right into other cars and the school building. It is illegal to idle in a school zone!

Google Chat & Google Hangout

As you may know, we found it necessary to take a break from Google chat/hangout because it was clear that we needed to refresh and recalibrate our expectations for its use.  The catalyst for this break was the discovery that students in numbers of up to 100 at a time across several grade levels and school were using the feature to chat with one another about non-related school topics, some of which we deemed inappropriate in nature.  We are prepared to reinstate the Google chat tool on April 1st after making it clear to students what we would expect to see when they are using the tool.  We need your help! You can support our efforts by reiterating these expectations with your child, as we have done here at school.  We would also appreciate you reviewing the acceptable use policy with your student which can be found here. Acceptable Use Please know that if your child is found engaging in unexpected use of google chat at school that we will first work with the student to ensure that they understand the expectation and can comply with it. If after that collaborative work with the student, the student continues to show unexpected use of the tool, then the appropriate disciplinary consequence will be taken in accordance with the acceptable use policy

Health Office News
