Principal Update October 4, 2016

  1. Our PARCC results were released last week, and our students did a fantastic job.  Overall, our students demonstrated great growth in this assessment. Roughly 50% of the schools in the state administered the PARCC last year, which is a more rigorous test then the MCAS. Schools in Massachusetts will no longer partaking in PARCC testing. The state has decided to design their own test and it will be called MCAS 2.0. Our current 4th graders will be receiving their scores and report from last year shortly. 2. Basic Rights Workshop
Federation for Children with Special Needs
This workshop is designed to provide families with an introduction/review of their rights and responsibilities under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA); Massachusetts Special Education Law; and No Child Left Behind (NCLB). Come and learn how to be a more effective partner with the school; about eligibility for special education; and how to plan, make decisions, and monitor the educational progress of your child.

  3. Our new writing initiative has begun and our staff and students are working incredibly hard in this area. Our students have concluded their first district wide writing prompt and we are using their results to help us inform our instruction. We will be spending this next couple of years working on our instruction and providing professional development for our staff. During our full curriculum day next week, our teachers will be working with a writing consultant from Teachers College Columbia University.img_1460
