Dear Florence Roche Families,

It was great to welcome our students back to school this week.  A lot of preparation goes into the start of every year, but this year was like no other.  This is always an exciting time of year for me as students and staff come back and reconnect after their summer break.  Everyone is energized and enthusiastic about the year ahead.  Our new building truly raised the excitement of school opening to a higher level.  From the staff opening on Monday to our grades 1-4 students on Wednesday and finally our brand new kindergarten students on Thursday, the smiles and genuine enthusiasm were awesome!

We have a lot of teaching and learning to do about how to navigate and use the many areas and features of our building.  On Wednesday, we had all of our grades 1-4 students in the gym for our very first all school meeting.  Students did a great job transitioning in and out of the gym and were engaged throughout the meeting.  The meeting served as a welcome back to school and a community building opportunity.  The focus was on our core values of respect, responsibility, and resilience in the context of how to use the stairs, hallways and bathrooms.

We are also learning how to make the parent drop off and pick up through the moving car line as efficient as possible.  You can help us by remaining in your car and allowing your student to get in or out on their own whenever possible.  Staff members will be there to assist if necessary.

The district will offer a no cost breakfast option for students beginning on Tuesday, September 3rd.  Any student needing breakfast will enter the school through the cafeteria door and pick up a “Grab and Go” type breakfast.  Students will eat breakfast in their classroom prior to the start of their morning meeting.  The breakfast menu is posted on the food services website.  Click here for the menu.

Mark your calendars for the PTA’s annual Welcome Back to School event.  This year’s celebration will take place on Friday, September 13th.  Be on the lookout for additional details coming from our PTA.  I look forward to seeing you there!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend.
