Happy September! As the calendar changes we begin to build our rhythm for this new school year. I’m noticing students learning routines in their classrooms and throughout the shared spaces in our school. It’s great to see our new kindergarteners already beginning to develop and model independent skills. They experienced our all school meeting as just a kindergarten class this week. Kindergarteners demonstrated their ability to be whole body listeners and were all very respectful as Mrs. Taylor led them through the meeting. It’s hard to believe they have only been in school for 5 days!
All of our students will be experts in their new school when it comes time to share their spaces with all of you. Our back to school nights this year will be an open house style of event. This means that parents and guardians are invited to visit classrooms with their student. We are excited for you to learn all about our new school through your student’s experience and perspective. The K-1 evening is scheduled on 10/8 and the grades 2-4 evening is scheduled on 10/10. The schedule for both evenings is 6:30-7:30. Parking will be available in the main campus parking lot. Accessible parking for those needing it is located near the front entrance of our building at the top of our driveway.
We are fortunate to have a variety of volunteers helping out in our cafeteria and during recess. Thank you to the team that has been showing up so far. If you are interested in helping out for even just one day, we welcome your support. Please email me at bodonoghue@gdrsd.org if you would like to know more about this volunteer opportunity.
If you are walking to pick up your student in the afternoon, please start to wait alongside the fence between the playground construction and the traffic bollards. This will help us by limiting the distractions to students being dismissed to the car line or the buses. Also, please only walk up to the school and leave by the parent driveway. Pedestrian traffic while buses are arriving and leaving creates potential safety concerns and slows down our dismissal process. Thank you for making these adjustments with us as we continue to fine tune our different processes.
Enjoy the weekend!
