The annual Welcome Back event was a fun way to end our first full week of school. Getting back into the routines of school is not only a transition for our students, but it is for our staff as well. It was fun to see so many of our students, their families and our staff enjoying some more relaxed social time together. Thanks to our PTA and the many volunteers for making this event a success.
We had our first fire drill of the year this week. Not only was it the first of the year, but it was our first in the new building. Students responded appropriately by silently exiting the building in a safe and orderly manner. The fire department gave us positive feedback for how everyone evacuated the building both safely and timely, especially for our first time ever doing it. We will continue to practice a variety of safety drills throughout the year in order to be prepared for potential emergencies.
The building has many new learning spaces that our students are getting familiar with and utilizing throughout each week. Here are a couple of pictures to show you what these spaces look like with students working in them. The media center has a “story corner” for whole class mini lessons to share a book or to introduce the library lesson for the day. The iLab is designed with space for students to work on collaborative activities that build teamwork and problem solving skills.
Here are the directions for our student drop off and pick up process. We need your support to achieve the goals of being safe and efficient. Please review the procedures and follow them, so that we can avoid traffic issues on Route 119.
The GD SEPAC is inviting all interested parents to attend their Coffee and Conversation scheduled for next Tuesday at 9:30am. Here is a link to the SEPAC website for additional information.
As a reminder, next Friday, 9/20 is an early release day for our students. Dismissal begins at 12:17pm. Please plan accordingly.
Have a nice weekend!
