Dear Florence Roche Families,
It was great to see so many of our students and their families visiting the school during the open house evenings this week. After 6 weeks of getting familiar with their school, I observed students enthusiastically sharing what they like about this new building with their guests. I hope you enjoyed the evening as much as I did!
.
Thank you to the Groton Fire Department for working with our students in support of Fire Prevention Week. Firefighters visited our 3rd graders this week to discuss fire safety in the home and will be back to work with the remaining grade levels next week.
We ended the week with an all school meeting. The expansive gym space provides the opportunity for us to come together as an entire school community. During the meeting, Mrs. Taylor read a story about how our school community is like a family. We reviewed the expectations for student behavior in the hallways and stairs as well as in the bathrooms and out at recess. These expectations were reinforced through the language of our core values of respect, responsibility and resilience.
Visitors to our building will notice the increased security for building access. There is a process for scanning a visitor’s license or identification card for a first time visitor. For subsequent visits, a visitor will be able to scan their ID at the kiosk located inside the initial entry point and identify the purpose of their visit. The initial scanning process requires support from Melanie or Christine and may take a couple of minutes. We appreciate your patience and support in keeping our school a safe place for our students and staff.
In anticipation of the many parents and guardians coming into the school for the fall book fair scheduled during the week of 10/21, I encourage you to stop by in advance to have your ID scanned. This will alleviate the potential back up of people waiting to get into the building during the classroom visits to the book fair. If you have already had your initial ID scan, then you are all set to use the kiosk for a self serve scan and check in. Please remember that you will need to bring your license/ID every time you plan to access the building.
Enjoy the long weekend.
Brian
