Dear Florence Roche Families,

It finally feels like the weather is getting back to our more seasonal temperatures.  We have been very fortunate with all of this unusually warmer weather.  As the temperatures drop, please make sure your student is coming to school prepared for the day’s weather.  Our plan is to be outside for recess as often as the weather allows.  The general guidelines for outdoor recess are for temperatures to be above 20 degrees including any windchill.  We will also continue to be outside with any moisture in the air with the exception of a persistent and soaking rain event.  Sweatshirts and or coats are recommended along with hats and gloves on the colder days.

Students were thrilled to get onto our new playground this week.  They were clearly having fun exploring all of the new equipment and using the court space to shoot baskets or play four square.

Our first graders experienced a literacy right of passage with a field trip to the Groton Public Library.  Students learned about the resources offered at their local library and were signed up for their library card if they had not already done that.  Half of the first graders visited the library last Friday and the rest of the students visited the library this afternoon.  Thank you to the Groton Public Library for funding the bus for this trip through a generous grant.

The library/media center was voter central last week.  Students and staff voiced their choice through a voting process to determine the theme of our next school spirit day.  Choices included a PJ/comfy clothes day, a sports team day, or a FloRo  school spirit day.  PJ day was an overwhelming winner, so all are welcome to wear their PJ’s or comfy clothes on Wednesday, 11/27.

Mrs. Taylor and I would like to invite parents and guardians to our 1st Principals’ Coffee on Monday, November 18th from 9:15-10:00 am in our cafeteria.  This is an opportunity for you to ask questions about our new school or anything else related to your student’s school experience.  During this fall coffee, we will plan to share our thoughts on how to make the most of your upcoming parent conferences.

The lost and found table is getting full.  Please remind your student to check the table for any missing items.  The lost and found table will be moved to the lobby during our conference days, so you can take a look as you pass by.  The lost and found will be cleared out at the Thanksgiving holiday break and any remaining items will be donated.

Here is the link to the weekly PTA Newsletter.  Check it out to make sure you are in the know about all of the PTA happenings.

This year more than ever, for some people in our community, the holiday season can be anything but happy.  If you are a family with young children, infants to Middle School and are experiencing financial difficulties, please remember that the Community Children’s Fund can help with gifts, food and winter clothing.  If you would like to experience the joy of giving during this upcoming holiday season, the Community Children’s Fund would be able to offer several different options.  To participate in either of these holiday traditions, Receiving or Giving, please contact Karen Tuomi at 978-877-6787 or email trustfunds@grotonma.gov.   Confidentiality is strictly maintained. Wishing you all happy and healthy holidays!
