December 6, 2024

Dear Florence Roche Families,

Tomorrow is our highly anticipated Florence Roche Winter Fair.  The PTA has been busy planning for this annual family event.  There will be crafts, a bake sale, amazing raffle baskets and a chili cookoff!  What you don’t want to miss are the grade level chorus performances under the direction of Mr. Wiesner.  Our student performers are the stars of the event and have been rehearsing over the last few weeks.  Please note the time of your student’s scheduled performance and plan to arrive early.  We anticipate additional traffic on Main Street due to Grotonfest happening tomorrow as well.

Our first term ended on Monday, 12/2.  Teachers are now working on completing student report cards.  The completed student report cards will be posted to the parent portal in SchoolBrains on December 20th.

The Florence Roche School 2024 time capsule was placed in the wall and sealed up over the past weekend.  The time capsule includes pictures of and notes from all of our students and staff who have come together during this first year in our new building.  The plan is to have an opening ceremony of the time capsule 50 years from now in 2074.  Imagine that our current kindergarteners will be in their mid 50’s when this takes place!  I hope they all come back and get to experience their 5 and 6 year old selves again through their pictures and notes.

We had our first snowfall this week.  The stormy weather didn’t impact our ability to get outside and access the playground for recess.  We will continue to go out for recess unless it is a soaking rain/snow or the combined temperature and windchill is below 20 degrees.  This means that students will need boots or winter shoes along with a warm jacket, hats and gloves/mittens.  I strongly recommend labeling your student’s outerwear.  This will make it easier to determine whose items end up in the lost and found.Picture retake day is this Tuesday, December 10th.  Students needing retakes or students who were absent on the original picture day in October will be called to the camera to have their picture taken.  Please follow the instructions on your student’s photo envelope for any retake requests.  Contact the office if you have any questions.

Kindergarten students learned about reflection and refraction of light through the Lasers and Lights program this week.  This science enrichment program is generously funded by the Groton Commissioners of Trust.
