Dear Florence Roche Families,

We’ve made it to the end of January and will find out this weekend if the groundhog sees its shadow.  Whatever happens, the days are getting longer and that always makes me feel like we are that much closer to spring.

Thank you to our 3rd grade families for providing the staff with a pizza lunch today.  A variety of pizza, snacks, desserts and drinks were a big hit with everyone!  Food always brings us together and your generosity is greatly appreciated.

The Acton Discovery Museum was here this week for a 3rd grade enrichment program about magnets and magnetic energy.  Students were engaged learners as they explored the different effects of magnetic force.  Thank you to our PTA for providing this experience.  Scheduling these programs can be challenging as there are often obstacles in classroom schedules to overcome.  Thank you to our PTA enrichment coordinator, Jillian Doyle, for persevering through these challenges for us!

If you need to make a change to your student’s dismissal plan during the day, please make sure to copy Christine, cwalzel@gdrsd.org, and Melanie, mkretas@gdrsd.org, in the office on any email communication sent to the classroom teacher.  Classroom teachers may not be checking their email during the teaching day.

The lost and found is full of hats, mittens and gloves.  If your student is missing an item, please remind them to check the lost and found during their lunch.  The lost and found will be cleaned out during the February vacation and remaining items will be donated.  pic.

The 2025-2026 incoming kindergarten information night is scheduled for Thursday, March 6th from 6:30pm-7:30pm.  Kindergarten registration for the 2025-2026 school year opens on Friday, March 7th.  Please plan to attend if you will have an incoming kindergarten student next year.  If you have any friends of neighbors who are not yet parents in our school, please let them know about this informational event.

A community open house to see our new building is scheduled for Saturday, March 1st from 10:00am-12:00pm.  Members of our 4th grade Student Council will be present to lead tours of the building.  The school committee is planning a public forum for residents to connect with the school committee on any school related topic.  Light refreshments will be served.  Please share this information with any of your neighbors who may not have students in our school, but may like to see the building.

Don’t miss our next Principals’ coffee scheduled for Monday, February 3rd from 9:15-10:00.  We have a special guest joining us.  Mrs. Dinneen, our math specialist, will be in attendance to share some strategies for supporting math learning at home.

The Spring 2025 MCAS dates for our grades 3 and 4 students are set.  Please note these dates on your calendars now so that we can avoid any potential student absence.
