Dear Florence Roche Families,

Next week will be a busy one for us as we administer the ELA version of this year’s MCAS to our grades 3 and 4 students.  We appreciate your support by making sure your 3rd or 4th grader gets a good night’s rest and eats a healthy breakfast in the morning before testing.  Please also make sure your student arrives at school on time.  Any 3rd or 4th grade student arriving after their test session has started will not be allowed to enter the testing room.  They will need to be scheduled for a make up test the following week.

Students are not allowed to have smartwatches available during MCAS testing.  As a general reminder, any student with a smartwatch in school needs to have the texting and phone functions disabled.  This is stated in our elementary handbook.  Please keep the smartwatches at home on MCAS days.

We will be planning our student class placement for the 2025-2026 school year later this spring.  Your input is an important part of this process and we encourage you to respond to the attached parent input letter and questionnaire.  The parent input form is due back to your child’s teacher or to the office by Friday, April 18th.  Here is the link to the placement letter.  You will need to make a copy of the doc or download it in order to write on it.

Our final Principal’s Coffee for the year is scheduled for Monday, May 5th at 9:00am in our cafe.  Middle School Principal, Wendy Salvatore and Middle School Assistant Principal, Michael Day will be our special guests.  Ms. Salvatore and Mr. Day will share information about the transition to middle school for our 4th grade families and anyone else interested in hearing about this process.

The cast of the Drama Guild’s Spring Play, Radium Girls, by DW Gregory, is preparing for next week’s shows.  Performances are Friday & Saturday, 4/11 & 4/12 at 7pm with a 2:00 matinee on Saturday 4/12.  Groton Resident Kathleen McKenzie directs this production with our Technical Director, Jon Swift. Radium Girls presents the stories of women in American factories using & suffering from the effects of an unusual new technology. All performances are in the Black Box Theater at GDRHS, 703 Chicopee Row, in Groton.

Have a nice weekend.
