Hi Middle School families, I hope you have a great weekend. There is a lot of information here. If you scan the bold for what you are looking for that might make for shorter reading. Sorry and Thank you for your attention to our information.
What does community look, feel and sound like? This weekend’s response comes to us from Ms. Murphy’s 5th grade Advisory: Community looks like helping someone with a craft, feels like everyone is listening and sounds like being kind.
New Information:
Staff vs Student Basketball Game, what a huge success the final score was 39-19 students. We raised over 1,000.00 for the 7th and 8th grade to have in their student accounts for field trips and end of year activities. Thank you to all of the parents that got the last minute calls.
Daily Announcements, if you ever have a question about something that your student comes home talking about please check our website ->Menu ->Parents -> Daily Announcements. Announcements
Grade 7 Reminder: Signs of Suicide, this is a reminder that an opt out was sent to you on March 7th. If you do not wish that your student, who is in Health and Wellness this term, take part in the screener on March 28 and 29th. You must opt out.
Information from our School Counseling team:
Kindness Week Update: Our 2nd annual Kindness Week was a great success! One of the activities was a secret mission where teachers observed their students and looked for acts of kindness during advisory. The highest scoring group won a prize for their whole advisory. Congratulations to Mrs. Lefebvre’s 5th grade advisory for earning 50 points and being the Middle School winner!
We also created kindness quilts in each building from squares students made during advisory. The North one is located in the lobby, and the South one is near the music room. Please look for them if you come into the school. We loved the student’s enthusiastic participation!
All grades:
For students and families that have applied and been accepted to schools other than Groton-Dunstable, we ask that you keep your child’s counselor and our administrative assistant, Karen Majkut (kmajkut@gdrsd.org), updated with any final decisions so that we can make sure student records are sent to the correct place for next school year. These decisions include private schools, charter schools and technical high schools. If you have any questions, please contact your child’s grade level counselor.
As we head into the busy months of MCAS, it’s important to remind our students about calming strategies when they are feeling stressed, worried or anxious. Here is a 5 minute relaxation you can try together. Another fun way to explore calming strategies is to use the virtual calming room on our website.
8th grade update:
Please refer to the GDRMS counselor’s website or the GDRHS’s scheduling page for more 8th to 9th grade information.
Grade 8 Moving up Ceremony has now been moved to Thursday June 15th.
March 23rd
The high school counselors will be at the middle school in the morning to discuss scheduling and course selection with the 8th grade. ALL students will participate and choose courses, even if they’ve made decisions to attend another school for high school.
8th grade parent scheduling information presentation at 6:00 in the high school. Parents will receive a course selection form and learn about scheduling for the 8th to 9th grader transition.
Reminders:
We are so pleased to be letting you know that our Project 351 8th grade ambassadors will be helping with a state wide service campaign, Cradles to Crayons. Every ambassador will collect clothing at a host site. Our ambassadors will be collecting clothing at Florence Roche, Swallow Union, and Maple Village Preschool. They will be collecting clothing from March 27-31.
Lost and Found: Families, we have so many sweatshirts and water bottles in our lost and found it’s insane. If your child has not brought home that Patriots sweatshirt that you know they have ask them to check the lost and found. In the North all of the clothes are folded and on a table in the lobby. In the South it is all hanging outside of the cafeteria.
