Hello Middle School families. Wishing you a wonderful time over the next few days. If you celebrate Thanksgiving, Happy Thanksgiving and may you find time to relax and connect with your inner self and family. During this busy time I try very hard to focus on my workouts as a way to stay balanced and connected to my peace.
New Information:
Pep Rally, We had our 2nd annual Pep Rally in the North building with the 7th and 8th grade…. But this year we added a little extra. At Groton Fest we had a PTO table and students had the opportunity to play a bottle flip challenge. If they landed the bottles they could put their names in a jar to throw a pie at my face at the Pep Rally. So 6th grader Sarah Mulvany won the exciting opportunity. The poor girl, I think she was nervous at first but in the moment it was great and she was smiling ear to ear as was I.
Yearbook Club, Below please see the flyer regarding sign ups.
Grade 8 families, Students in Grade 8 Civics and ELA will be participating in a national program created by StoryCorps called The Great Thanksgiving Listen. (1 minute video)
They will record an interview with a grandparent or other elder in person or remotely. These interviews are meant to "foster meaningful conversations within families, communities, and the classroom, and create a firsthand archive of American history and wisdom."
Students, with the consent of their adults and those they interview, have the option to submit their recordings to the StoryCorps Archive in the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress, where their interviews will become a primary source for current and future historians. They may also choose to keep their conversation private.
They will be preparing for and conducting their interview in Civics; their work will play a role in a literary nonfiction assignment later this school year in ELA.

PTO
Annual Fundraising Campaign, I wanted to bring this back to the top. Our Middle School PTO can’t do all the things they do without your support.
Each year, the GDMS PTO runs a campaign to raise funds for the school year and beyond. All funds raised are integral to our mission to support the well-rounded educational experience of students and staff at the middle school. We appreciate any and all support. Thank you!
Volunteers Needed
The PTO is looking for volunteers to fill a variety of roles. There are opportunities available for people who are able to donate one hour of their time, people who have several hours to give, and everyone in between. We would love to work with you! See our flyer for more information.
