Hello Middle School families. I hope you are having a lovely weekend.
Grade 7 families, We had a guest speaker come in on Monday, his name is Tim Igo, and he has climbed Mount Everest and the Seven Summits. The Seven Summits are the highest mountain on each of the world’s seven continents. Mr. Igo has also climbed Pico De Orizaba the tallest Volcano in North America, and the Cotopaxi and Cayambe volcanoes in Ecuador, Mr. Igo has also climbed all the 48 x 4000 footers in the New England White Mountains. Mr. Igo attributes his success in mountaineering to working hard in school to learn all of the knowledge and skills needed to successfully navigate his mountaineering accomplishments. Today, he shared his journey of climbing Mount Everest and how the things we learn in school can help take on great challenges like climbing Everest.
So, this happened this week. 3 5th grade students came to the south office to give a Shout Out to a peer who helped one of these students clean up her water after the bottle spilled in class. This student did this just because she was being nice. This is great for so many reasons. It was great because students are recognizing others for being kind. It’s great because our 5th grade team and Mr. Day are using and acknowledging our students when they do good things. And, it was great because if they are doing this in 5th grade I can only hope that this behavior sticks and they will do this throughout their Middle School career and beyond. It is so important to recognize the good in people. It’s these small microaffirmations that lead to a positive supportive culture.
Grade 8 families, if you have a student who is attending the high school this is the counselor breakdown. If you or your student have questions about the Yellow Course Selection Sheet please email these folks at the high school.

Reminders,
Elementary School Science Fair Volunteers needed, The Elementary Science Fair is set to take place at the Middle School North gym on Saturday, April 6th at 9am. We are in need of High School student volunteers to act as judges. This is a fun way to earn volunteer hours! The elementary students especially enjoy sharing their projects with the older students. If your high schooler can help, please have them use the link below to sign up. We only have a few volunteer judges so far, and we need many to make this a success. If you have any questions, please email gdesciencefair@gmail.com.
