Family Memo

Hello Middle School families.  I hope you have a great weekend with your families.

We are doing Square1 Art again this year.  Be on the lookout for your student to be bringing information home in the next few weeks

Grade 8 Families, the parents who are putting together the dance/social on June 12th have asked for a student list and for parent emails.  If you do not wish to have your email address shared with this group please let me know by Wednesday March 5th.  Thank you

Middle School Counselor status, Ms. Nessco returned before break.  Unfortunately, Ms. Ascione is out on a leave of absence.  We are not sure of a return date at this time.  Filling in for Ms. Ascione is Ms. Budrys.  Ms.Budrys is currently covering Ms. Ascione’s grade 7 and her part of the grade 8 alphabet.  She will be at the Middle School on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.  We are currently working on a permanent replacement for Ms. Ascione.

This week you should have received communication from the Tech Department about Google Workspace for Education.  There is a new regulation that directly impacts our students’ access to Additional Google Services, including YouTube, Google Earth, Google Maps, Google Translate, and a handful of others. A form from tech was sent out on Monday,  “communication will be sent to all parents and guardians”  informing families that Groton-Dunstable Regional School District must obtain parental consent for students under 18 to access these services. This will go into effect on March 31st. Please click on the link and sign the permission form.  Thank you.

GDMS PTO is hosting a free parent workshop on Executive Function. Please join us via Google Meet on March 6 at 7p! This event is free, but registration is required.  Check our website for additional information and to register.

7th grade geography classes simulated what it is like to climb Mount Everest at extreme altitudes with the gear climbers would need by using weighted backpacks, straws to simulate constricted availability of oxygen, and a set of stairs.

5th grade books about themselves and covers of what they are reading.

Reminders:

Attendance, please see the Middle School Handbook page 11 for our middle school attendance policy.  This is a friendly reminder that students are responsible for missed work when they are absent. If your student has multiple absences you will be getting a call from your student’s advisory teacher or administrator to follow up.

School Council

A reminder about the bus….  The school can not give permission/or ok students riding another bus.  If you would like your child to ride another bus you must either call or email the bus company to see if that is ok.  Please know if you do not do this and your child gets on a different bus your child will be brought back to school and you will need to pick them up.  Thank you for your cooperation.

A note from GDEF, "Are you looking for a unique way to recognize a Teacher, Administrator, or Other Staff/Community Member for their hard work and impact they’ve had on your child? GDEF Teaching Stars are the perfect gift! They are a great way to say "Thank You" while helping to enrich the schools in the form of a donation to the Groton-Dunstable Education Foundation (GDEF). Certificates are great for showing your gratitude in November or as a holiday gift in December! Learn more here about how to show an educator how much they are appreciated with a Teaching Star: https://www.gdefinc.org/teaching-star."
