As a reminder, beginning March 31, 2025, students under 18 will need parental consent to directly access Additional Google Services such as YouTube, Google Earth, Google Translate, and Google Maps. If you haven’t yet provided consent through the SchoolBrains Community Portal, please do so as soon as possible.

Note: To streamline this process, parents who have not completed the original consent form by March 14th will be assigned a new form under "Parent/Guardian 1." If you see a duplicate form and have already completed the consent, please disregard it. Here is information on how to view the consent form within the portal.

We also want to share some educational workarounds available to our teachers and staff to ensure continued learning access if consent is not received. For example:

  • Teachers can insert a specific YouTube video into Google Classroom assignments, allowing students to view content without direct access to YouTube. Students without consent cannot visit youtube.com directly.

  • Google Translate will remain available through a Chromebook extension or within the Google search bar, even for students without consent. However, visiting translate.google.com will be restricted without consent.

As Google shares additional communications and information about these changes, we will share this with our community. These measures can help maintain a balanced digital learning environment while ensuring compliance with Google's policies. If you have any questions or need assistance, please don't hesitate to contact Luke Callahan, Ed.D., Director of Technology & Digital Learning, at lcallahan@gdrsd.org.

Thank you for your continued support!
