Good Afternoon Groton Dunstable Regional Middle School Families.
Week 1 was awesome. I have received so many kind emails from the GD community, Thank you. Outside of working with your wonderful children and our amazing staff this week seeing all the dogs in the morning has been a highlight. This is my girl Audra on a boat this past weekend.
COVID UPDATE:
We have had 1 student and 1 staff test positive this week/weekend. Both the positive cases and the close contacts have been notified and are following our COVID protocols.
This is a diagram of how close contacts work. DESE Updated COVID-19 Flowchart
Important Topics for your to Know
Open house is Tuesday 9/21 6-8. I am working out the details with the teachers. It looks like we will be breaking families down by alphabet. Most likely A-K 6-6:45 and L-Z 7-7:45. Please stay tuned for more details. Open house is in person.
At this time we can not have students switching busses in the afternoon. Because we are still wearing masks and following COVID protocols we know who rides what bus and we can not play with that attendance at this time. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Dismissals are happening like they did pre COVID. Please send your child in with a note and when you arrive to pick them up please come into the office wearing a mask.
Please make sure that you are signing up for lunch if you wish to have your students eat lunch at school. I had sent out the process for signing up. If you need it again please send me an email.
Please remind your children that during recess that while they are outside we should still try to keep our distance if we are unmasked.
I have an athletics update. Athletics Update 9/6
We will be supporting the GDRHS Volunteer’s Club, by holding a clothing drive for Catie's Closet, a non-profit organization that creates “closets” in schools all across Massachusetts. The club was able to run a successful drive through Catie’s Closet last fall, which provided clothes to many kids in need. We will be holding this at GDRMS. These closets include clothes, toiletries, and supplies that are provided for underprivileged or homeless students. As of right now, due to COVID-19, we will only be obtaining clothes and shoes to keep contact to a minimum. We would like to hold this clothing drive starting the week of September 13th and ending on September 24th. Catie’s Closet will provide us with bins and we will house these bins in our main hallways near our North and South Office. Students can bring in any new/gently used clothes and shoes and drop them off in these bins (a list will be provided for what is collected). They are planning on retrieving clothes twice a week for the two weeks this is open. The club will limit the number of people in contact with the bins by leaving them with trusted leaders for transportation only. In addition, Catie’s Closet has its own disinfecting process. This is a great cause that will help children K-12 feel more confident and improve absenteeism rates. The club is very passionate about the success of this drive and will make sure that it goes smoothly.
I have not forgotten those of you who offered to work with me on the School Council or the PTO. I will be reaching out once I get school up and running. My focus right now is on the first 6 weeks of school and what that will look, feel and sound like for our middle school community.
I have asked the staff if anyone is offering any clubs this year. When I hear anything about clubs I will message out through the website.
We will be holding a moment of silence on Friday 9/10 in the event that the 9/11 tragedy happened 20 years Saturday.
NEW WEBSITE AND APP: We’re thrilled to announce Groton-Dunstable Regional School District’s new app and website! The website is 'live' at http://gdrsd.org. Download the app on Android: https://bit.ly/3ed36NY or iPhone: https://apple.co/3k91J6Q. The app and website will have a concise way for our staff and parents to access documents, events, news updates, and more! We look forward to working together to make this a great hub of communication for each other and for all of our families in Groton and Dunstable.
Sincerely, Wendy Salvatore your GDRMS Principal
