Happy Sunday Groton Dunstable Regional Middle School Families. I hope you had a great weekend. I am going to try to make this memo a little more straightforward as I have received feedback that things seem to get missed or lost in the text.
New Topics to be aware of:
TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK, This week, May 2, through May 6th is teacher appreciation week. Our PTO has generously set up a teacher appreciation luncheon catered by Salt and Light for next Friday May 13th which is a half day. The PTO has created a Venmo account for families to be able to donate. That PTO Memo will come to you in a separate email.
May is Mental Health awareness month. Our middle school guidance department wanted me to share this flier with you Mental Health Awareness Month.
Parents of Current Grade 6 and 7 Students:
The mathematics course recommendations for the 2022-2023 school year will be sent in an email to the primary parent/guardian email listed in Schoolbrains on Monday morning, May 2nd. Please look for an email from kgartland@gdrsd.org, Karen Gartland, K-8 mathematics supervisor. If you do not receive this email in your inbox by May 2nd please first check your spam folder. If you did not receive it, let me know by sending me an email and I will send it to the address that you request. As the information states, if you have any questions about the process please do not hesitate to contact me. If you have questions about the course recommendation choice, please contact your child's mathematics educator. Karen Gartland, M.Ed. K-8 Mathematics Supervisor kgartland@gdrsd.org 978-448-5505 X3810
Parents of Current Grade 5, 6 and 7 students
We want to remind you that the Human Growth and Development lessons will be delivered coed to fifth, sixth and seventh grade students during their science class. The date ranges for each grade level are as follows: Grade 7, May 2 - May 5; Grade 6, May 16-19; Grade 5, May 23-26.
The initial communication was sent on March 27 informing parents of both of our parent informational meetings held before April break. If you did not have the opportunity to attend either of the parent informational meetings you can locate the overview of the lessons. You are also welcome to schedule a time to preview the curriculum. If you choose to opt your child out of the 2 day Human Growth and Development lesson you may find the Opt-Out Form here.
If you wish to schedule a time to review the lessons please contact myself at wsalvatore@gdrsd.org and Mrs. Pelletier at npelletier@gdrsd.org.
Reminders:
Postural Screening, We are currently working on this since it was rescheduled from the fall. Here is your opt out form. MS Letter Postural Screening - 2022
We have a 7th grade student who is part of 4H. 4H stands for head, hands, heart, and health. Her troop is doing a community service project. They are going to be donating pet foods and supplies to animal shelters. The student was wondering if we’d be willing to inform the students and staff here at GDMS about this and maybe ask for some donations! If you are interested the collections will start this week. She is decorating boxes for old blankets and sheets to support Nevins Farm in Methuen Ma. Please see the flier for more information: 4H Flier We will start our collection after April Vacation.
