Students in third grade got to experience hand-on-science from the PTO on Tuesday. The program was intended for students to learn about how animals and plants survive and thrive with habitats. In one of the experiments they got to learn how cactus plants survive in the desert without much water. They also learned how blubber can keep an animal warm in the freezing arctic. Lastly they got to use glue and a powdered glow in the dark substance to make slime. They actually made bioluminesce light just like jellyfish do down in the deep dark oceans.

Wishing GDRSD families a blessed Ramadan filled with peace, prosperity, and happiness!

Students explore concepts of force and motion while interacting with a variety of toys and engineering their toys that move in lots of different ways. Students play with how to make objects move and control that movement, and experiment with the effects of outside forces such as gravity and friction acting on that movement. #thescienceofforceandmotion

First graders in Mrs. Caulfield's class enjoyed learning logic games, such as Nim and Three Men's Morris, in which they had to use strategy and critical thinking to play competitively with their math partners. Special thank you to Mrs. Gartland, PreK to 8 Math Supervisor, for coaching and joining in the fun!

Good evening,
Due to the continued forecast for significant snowfall and deteriorating road conditions, GDRSD will be opening on a two hour delay tomorrow. However, given the lack of clear projections on snow fall and duration of the storm, staff should check for a possible change to cancellation in the morning.
Again, at this time we are going with a two hour delay for Monday, January 30th, however if the snowfall totals, storm timing, and road conditions worsen this may change. Stay safe, Laura

Students in Mrs. Schott’s first grade class had fun learning about light and color during their in-house Discovery Museum field trip.

This week Karen Gartland and Mrs. Rozzi taught a second-grade math lesson on learning to count from $10 to $1,000 using a variety of place-value math tools. They were asked to show how to count from $776 to $900, using place value math tools of their choice. The second graders came up with so many different strategies and were very excited to share their math thinking with a partner and the class!
